Last Saturday in Arizona, the Lights Festival took place. There were between 6,000 to 8,000 people in total!

The gates opened at 3:30 pm for people who purchased tickets to the event. When the guests checked, each person received a lantern and a little bag which included a glow in the dark bracelet, a pen, and a flashlight.

Music was playing as people took their seats, and some people were dancing to the music.

The host of the event invited guests to write something that “lights you” on the lantern. Many people choose things such as #vegasstrong or peace. Some also wrote things that they want to get rid of in their lives such as hate and war.

Around 5:30 pm, a dance competition began Whoever wanted to participate started dancing in front of the stage. From that group of people, three contestants were chosen. They were all around the ages of 16, 17, and 18 years old. The girl that won won a free sweatshirt and the other two won a t-shirt.

During the whole event there were different types of food trucks. Some of them were Asian foods, Thai foods, Latin foods, and of course, ice cream.

At 8:00 pm, tiki torches were lit around the event so the guests could light their lanterns. At 8:15, the lanterns were let go.

When the lanterns were all in the sky, people were so impressed. It was so moving to see everyone’s story on their lantern. It felt like a Disney movie.
