Beth and Robert Schill, they are in charge of coordinating the soup making.

On April 14th, the 18th annual Nevada Clay Guild Empty Bowl benefit was celebrated at the Green Valley High School cafeteria at 11:30 am.

The benefit is a luncheon and an auction.  The auction is made up of paintings and more, all donated by various artists in the valley.

The event has been helping the community since 2000 and is held every spring. Entrance to the event was $15. With this purchase, you receive a bowl of your choice. The bowl serves as the bowl for your soup. The bowls are made and donated by the Nevada Clay Guild, Mission Hills Pottery, and Aardvark Clay.

Churches in the community came together to make two, 10 gallon pots of soup. Even though our school has been a part of this event for two years now, it was the first year that our St. Viator Church participated in the soup making. There were a number of parishioners from St. Viator who donated their time to help prepare the soup for the event.

Some of our parishioners have participated in the Empty Bowl event in past years as individuals. Some of our parishioners even help out at the Las Vegas Catholic Worker soupline. Mr. Blaskey’s Christmas Spirits group also sings Christmas carols to those at the soupline once a year.

At the end of the event, they raised about $36,000! The money earned goes to the Las Vegas Catholic Worker soupline.
