The Las Vegas community  is filled with many amazing people who love to give back to others less fortunate than themselves.

One way people and organizations can help people in the community is by creating charity events to raise money and awareness to different charities. Some of those events include walks/runs that support special causes, such as bladder cancer, autism, Down Syndrome, breast cancer, and so much more. These events are very important to many people and allow them to support whatever cause they may choose.

One walk is called the “Relay for Life of Las Vegas”. This event honors all those who have been affected by cancer. There are not only volunteers from Nevada, but also from thousands of communities in different states and from 27 countries around the world. These volunteers are spirited individuals who work hard and give up their time to help bring this event to life. They believe that it is time to stand up against cancer and help raise awareness.

On Saturday April 14th, an event will be held in Las Vegas remembering loved ones who have passed away and honors all the survivors from cancer. In this 6 hour event, there are teams, and they are supposed to have one member on the track during the relay signifying that cancer doesn’t stop. Cancer patients never give up fighting against cancer because they are tired. Those diagnosed with cancer, or any disease, are so strong, and this event helps them in their battle. Those who are going through tough times like these, truly appreciate those who have given up their time to promote awareness and support them.

There are many people from St. Viator, both teachers and students, who have actually participated in some of these charity events. For example, Kylie Curran from 8B, participated in the Food Allergy Awareness Walk. She states, “I decided to do this walk because I actually have food allergies and it raises awareness to the cause. It is important to me because it raises support for the food allergy community to find a cure.”

These charity events in Las Vegas have been very successful in bringing people together and showing their love in the world. They show people that there is hope and unity.

If you are interested in participating in this charity event or others, you can visit the website called, https://secure.acsevents.org/site/SPageServer?pagename=relay_find_event.
