When I think of Evangelists I think about older, wiser people trying to connect with middle-aged people like our junior high here at St. Viator. But the NET team was different than most of us were expecting. They were young, funny, relatable, and amazing. We all found that they loved Christ and could still be fun and outgoing.

NET stands for National Evangelization Team. They are a group of adults from the age of eighteen to twenty-five and they are very passionate about spreading the Word of God. Some of them had been raised in a Christian family and some of them had to figure it out on their own only with the help of God. It was amazing to hear their stories from their past. I couldn’t believe the changes some of them had made in their lives. From feeling lost to empty to not fitting in with friends or family- they all found strength and humbleness with God.

My family hosted the NET team for two nights during their visit. It was amazing. When they got here they were very excited to meet all of us. We hosted seven girls. The four boys stayed with another awesome family from St. Viator Church. They were almost like a family. They were so close.

The NET group explained to us that when you join NET you travel all around the United States to Parishes, churches, Youth groups, schools, and other religious groups. You get to meet so many new people and get to learn about their lives. The hardest part for all of them was leaving their families. They only get to see them at Christmas time. The NET team is allowed twenty minutes a night on their phone that time is usually spent calling their families. Most of them FaceTime or Skype. They all have their own stories and come from all over the world.

Alice B. is from Barcelona, Spain. She grew up in a Catholic home. Sometimes she felt like she didn’t fit in with the kids at school. She realized that some people that she thought were their friends were not really always there for her when she needed them the most. When Alice told her parents that she had heard about the NET team and how she really wanted to join them, her mother and her whole family were against the idea. She applied and was excepted and thought that her family would support her automatically. But, they did not understand.  Alice prayed constantly for her family to understand and for God to show her the path. Two weeks before she was ready to leave, her mother came to her and told her that she thought what she was doing was wonderful and she was very proud of her for following her calling. Alice is having an awesome time and loves being part of NET.

The NET team was an amazing experience for all of my family members. My dad, Chris Jones stated, “I think it was rather inspiring to see people that age taking their faith so seriously and not being afraid to talk about it.”

Thank you, Rosy Hartz and the Viatorians for giving out Junior High students the opportunity to learn from such amazing young evangelists. We couldn’t have done it without your time and organization.

I highly recommend hosting the NET team during their stay.
